Why your attic matters in Scottsdale

Its strength is measured in R-value, and a higher number slows more heat. The IECC places Maricopa County in climate zone 2B, a hot, dry zone. SRP's attic rebate

SRP's attic insulation rebate covers up to 75% of the cost, up to $600, for SRP residential customers. Your home may qualify if SRP serves your address. We checked the terms on srpnet.com in October 2026. Rebate rules can change, so we confirm them again before your job starts.

A city loan program

Scottsdale's Major Housing Rehabilitation program offers a deferred loan for home improvements, including ones that reduce a home's energy use. Eligibility rules apply, so check with the city first. If you're applying, we can give you a written quote to include with your paperwork. The city, not Vezina, decides who gets the loan.

How much attic insulation does a Scottsdale home need?

ENERGY STAR's advice for climate zone 2 is R49 in an attic with no insulation. If the attic already holds 3 to 4 inches, it suggests adding R38. Maricopa County sits in zone 2B. The right amount for your home depends on what's up there now, so we measure the depth and type during the free visit before we price anything. For floors, ENERGY STAR's zone 2 target is R13.

Will SRP pay for part of my attic insulation?

It may, if SRP is your utility. SRP's rebate covers up to 75% of the cost, up to $600, for its residential customers. Scottsdale homes are on SRP or APS depending on the address, so check your bill first. We'll confirm the current terms and plan your project around them. SRP pays the rebate, not us, so the final word on who qualifies is theirs.

Is blown-in or spray foam better for my attic?

It depends on the attic and your goals. Blown-in loose-fill tops up an open attic floor. Spray foam can go on the underside of the roof deck, and it seals air leaks where it's sprayed. Per inch, closed-cell foam runs about R-6 and open-cell about R-3.6, while blown fiberglass runs about R-2.2 to R-2.7. Closed-cell foam is also dense and rigid, so it resists air and water vapor better. We'll walk you through both at the visit.
